I'm in for the silver dollars both Unc. and Proof as well as the halfs in the same condition. The gold? I'll only be purchasing an Unc.

I'm going for a Grand Slam. All of them all the way, to home.

  7. I am not looking for slabs, but will bet the TPGs will have some interesting labels perhaps even some with autographs of players. TC

I'm in for something to be sure. Love baseball but I am sort of disappointed that they are all the same.

So, am I the only one who sees this as a cheesy gimmick? Will they sell it in a case with a button that plays "Take Me Out to the Ball Game"?

I'm in for one of each of the silver. At least these are an original idea which is a lot more than I can say for most mint products. I like the bowl shape.

Interesting... think I might get at least the silver set.

I'll be getting the silver & clad coins but not able to afford the gold. I wonder if they would have a set that includes all the coins minus the gold!!

The grading services will have to come up with a much thicker holder for these which won't fit in any of their current slab boxes.

No, I agree it is cheesy. As in the movie The Field of Dreams, if you build it, they will come. If the Mint makes it, people will buy it. No offense intended.

I think they're super cheesy also. Not saying they can't one day be very valuable. Some of the cheesiest things have gone on to be valuable collectibles. The only good thing about these, IMO, is the precious metal.

from the mint blog. the height of the dome is .085 inch. less than 1/10 inch. won't be much of a slab difference. not sure if I want one, I'd like to see the coin first.

    I will probably some!

  17. I think these will likely sell out quickly across all product options due to the novelty of the concave design and the popularity of baseball. Expect higher mintages, but also expect huge demand for these and higher prices in the marketplace especially after sell out. I think these will have a durability of value similar or better to that of the 2001 silver buffalo commemoratives. JMO. TC

Cheesy or not, given the dearth of interesting commemoratives we have had over the past few years, I will gladly take a couple of these. I am thinking of getting both the proof and uncirculated silver.

I am shocked we could actually go an entire year without including another military-themed coin. Thank God for small favors.

My son is a baseball player, so for that reason I will buy the proof and unc silver coins and probably the unc gold.

When the French Mint (Monnaie de Paris) issued its "Astronomy Year/Moon landing" collector coins five years ago, they made an interesting compromise: Two of the four pieces were curved in that concave style, the other two were "flat".

Of course the curved pieces were highly sought after. But this way those who think that coins (including collector coins) should be flat were happy too. ;)

The National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Act (Public Law 112-152), signed into law on August 3, 2012, requires the Secretary of the Treasury to mint and issue up to:

    • 50,000 $5 gold coins
    • 400,000 $1 silver coins
    • 750,000 half-dollar clad coins
400,000 doesn't seem to be a very high number for the silver coins.
