Thread #06 where I ask the fine members of CoinTalk their opinions on a coin I have already sent to CAC for review. Please let me know what you think, such as: Will it fail to CAC, and why? Will it be a green or gold CAC sticker? What (negative) issues does the coin have? What positive attributes does the coin have? Is the strike good or bad? Is the toning pretty or ugly? etc Up for consideration is a 1974-S $1 Silver Eisenhower Dollar PCGS MS65 in modern PCGS holder. (side note; the printing quality on this blue label is really bad, top portion is a mess) I'll tell you right now, I think this will Green Sticker based on my two other CAC Ikes. Seems 66+ to me, what you think?
For some reason...I thought CAC only looked at coins 1964 and older. Edit, I looked it up and I guess they do MS Ike's through 1978. Where they always like this? I could have sworn at one time it was 1964 and older.
Fairly new development, but I already own three in my Type set so I know it's for real. More info: http://www.coinweek.com/coin-grading/cac-to-accept-eisenhower-dollars/ an Example I own:
Yeah, I looked it up and edited mt original post probably as you were replying. It looks like they grade selective newer coins. I noticed no JFK halves are listed on their site and only a select few Memorial Lincolns. No SBAs either. Is this a new policy? Were they just pre-64 before?
Ikes are really the only new series they added, and I asked JA (indirectly through another member) if he will ever add another series, for instance, business strike Jefferson Nickels (besides overdates, ddo / ddr). Long and short answer was "no". So basically classic coins + Ikes.
I'll bet that changes in time. They are a business and they will cater to the market. I imagine it will happen in increments...for example, war nickels could be a stepping stone.
