HI everyone, I just listed a quarter on EBAY, I may have gotten a little zealious about it but its like finding that golden goose. I am not asking for anyone to buy it, I just need a little help with information about it.

There is an imprint of a face on George's neck, and also there is mirrored written, on both sides. I can barely make out some roman numerals on the head dress also. Is this a big flop or is this something I should take serious?

Am I correct that the "Dollar" imprinted on the reverse is bigger than the "Dollar" on the obverse, or are they the same size? That would lead me to believe it could of came in contact with a half dollar die somehow, is that possible? Someone will know more, I'd probably find out more about it before listing it, interesting.

I am not sure, I tried to lay another quarter on it and see if that's it but couldn't get the match. I list a lot of stuff on ebay and was so excited that I just went at it, and now there is already a bid, I have a pretty steep reserve, sometimes other members will email me about my listings and I get good information. The pictures there are a lot better, I didnt download them to computer so I couldnt up load here sorry.

    thanks for the reply

Take it off eBay before you make yourself look foolish. The fact that "DOLLAR" is imprinted backwards indicates that it was impressed on the coin with another quarter.

To late :) wont be the first time! I kinda figured that it was another impression but if you look at the front, I cant figure out the face, whats your thoughts.

Agreed, this is a viced or squeezed coin. You take two coins, put them in a vice and squeeze them together. The result is a coin that has an imprint of another coin on it. The tell tale sign is the impressed image/words is backwards. If this had come into contact with another die...it would not be. My guess is they squeezed this coin against a small dollar coin.

Well I pulled the auction. Does anyone know where to send this to get concrete facts on it, or is it not even worth it?

Thank you everyone for your replies!

It was a botched attempt at a "sandwich job"......placing the quarter between an obverse of one and the reverse of another, but they weren't lined up properly.

Trust me! It's not worth it.

The only thing I can think of is sending it to one of the third party grading services...either PCGS or NGC. But, this is a pretty clear example of a viced coin...not even a very good one. I wouldn't waste your money.

Thanks for posting it, and the others for dropping knowledge. I hadn't seen a viced coin before.
