Hello all I was wondering if someone with good currency value knowledge can help me figure out if my $50 federal reserve star note in almost AU is worth anything extra. There is a small pen tester mark on the front of the bill but other than that pretty great shape! Very low Serial # of G00021760*. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

It looks like a series 1950 $50 start note from the Chicago FRN to me. I don't have my book with me (I'm at work) so I can't speak to the print run. But, it's a keeper for sure.

That said, the serial number is not considered low. For most collectors to consider a serial low it needs five leading zeros (ex: G00000170*). But, despite that...I think this note is still worth hanging onto.

If nobody gets to it before me, I will look it up when I get home.

I'm not saying you hit the jackpot or anything, just that it's probably worth more than face value. Don't get your hopes too high. ;)

it's a shame that someone has marked up that $50. the X on there "might" disappear eventually(probably not anytime soon). it's hard to tell if the red marks on the seal and face of the note are pen or possibly a teller stamp ink. the note is definitely worth more than face. as far as how much it really depends on the market. i had several of those exact notes in CH CU & GEM (some graded & some raw) and made no where near what they list for in guides. still a nice note

So, my book shows the serial range of this note is: G00000473*-G00059216*. That would suggest a print run of 59743 notes. The book lists the CHCU value of this note at $375. Now, this note is not CHCU and from my experience, these guide books tend to error way high. Also...just based on the relative values of the star notes listed in the book, this looks to be the most common star 1950 $50 star note.

That said, the note certainly does have value above face. How much...hard to say. Just a blind guess looking on eBay, if you were to try and sell it I'd imagine you'd get in the $80-$100 range for it. But, you never know.

FYI, the book I'm using as a reference is the Schwartz-Lindquist 8th edition.

Just for comparison purposes...the 19th edition of the Friedberg guide lists this note at $150 in EF and $775 in CH63. So, I think $80-$100 is reasonable.
