How long before this goes poof? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1st-Year-of...47548?pt=US_Bullion_Coins&hash=item19e8dc815c TC
Seller is really dumb. Ebay started charging fees on shipping a couple of years ago to get rid of shipping gougers. I remember new stuff (laptops, cameras, etc), with the item at $1.00 and the shipping being hundreds. Feedbay also did it as a push to offer free shipping. Issue with free shipping...shipping is not free and gets baked into the price, so when you buy multiple items, you get no multiple item discount.
The seller has been on eBay since well before the change back in 2011. He may be using this as an intentional strategy to dupe buyers into bidding higher that they want on the item.
No, it's listed in the description why his shipping charge is so high, it's blatantly trying to circumvent the eBay policy and save himself some fee money. I reported the listing, wonder if anyone else has. Actually, I edited this to say TC I agree also, this is true, he may be hoping some folks really bid it up not reading the rest...
I'm just surprised that it is up to $21.50 or $156.50 with the shipping charge. It isn't a collector's puck but only a bullion puck. Are they really worth that much over spot?
Depends, some of them have low mintages and are worth way more than bullion value. Not sure if this is one of them. But, it's in line with what normal bullion goes for, roughly $28-30/oz on ebay. However, I bet some folks didn't read the description and are bidding on it like they think it's a super deal...
The seller is not as dumb as you think. The fee eBay charges on shipping is a flat rate and is a much lower percentage than the final auction value fees, especially for items over $100.00. So he is actually circumventing the eBay fees he should be paying by shifting the price of the item from the final bid to his shipping costs.
reported it for a violation of what rule exactly? he can charge whatever he wants for shipping and handling. the buyer and seller both end up giving less money to ebay. i think that was kind of a shmucky thing to do bud.
it doesnt matter if he put an explanation in or not. as a buyer, you are responsible for knowing how much shipping PLUS the winning bid is. i think the tattle tales cried wolf for no reason.
i would really like to know what rule was broken to justify a reporting. and i personally think that anyone who reports him is shooting other ebayers in the foot by trying to keep the fees down as the buyer and seller share those while ebay prospers from it.
illegal why. i am asking because i dont know. i would liek to see a specific rule that says you cannot charge whatever you want for shipping and HANDLING
If no rules were broken, then ebay will leave it up. How exactly is this guy keeping fees down? He's going to get charged a fee for the total purchase price (final value plus shipping). And it's already been bid up to a normal amt for that coin, so he hasn't saved the buyer anything.
Can you link to an eBay page explaining this? What I'm seeing on the selling fees page is a flat 10% final value fee, with "final value" including shipping: I'm not seeing where the clown behind this auction is saving one cent. He'll pay exactly the same FVF as if the item had sold for the same total amount with free or actual-cost shipping, but he'll get a guaranteed low rating on shipping and handling costs, and he's at high risk of getting negative FB if that foolish $72 "winning" bidder really wasn't considering shipping costs when he/she placed the bid. If anybody at eBay is paying attention at all, they're probably laughing at him.
