Will it CAC? #09

    Thread #09 where I ask the fine members of CoinTalk their opinions on a coin I have already sent to CAC for review. I know I said the previous thread #08 was the last for the night, but you didn't seriously believe me, did you?

    Please let me know what you think, such as:

    Will it fail to CAC, and why?
    Will it be a green or gold CAC sticker?
    What (negative) issues does the coin have?
    What positive attributes does the coin have?
    Is the strike good or bad?
    Is the toning pretty or ugly?
    etc

    If you didn't already know, I am a big fan of the Fatty holders.

    Up for consideration is a 1898 $1 Morgan Dollar NGC MS63 in NGC4 "No Line Fattie" holder.​

    I think this could have made it into an MS64 if not for the large gash on the cheek. Some nice hints of color on the Obverse, and WHAM, you get the full blast of color on the reverse.

    I'll say yes. Luster looks really good on the obverse, kinda of muted on the reverse due to the toning. Looks about right for 63 as far as marks go.

    I'd say she'll CAC , she's about in the middle for a 63 , but the toning is pleasing . Nice 63 IMHO .

    I'm gonna say yes a green bean average bag marks for a 63 but a good sharp strike and pretty toning giving this one a ton of eye appeal nice coin

    If I was buying this coin I wouldn't care if it had a CAC sticker or not because I really like the toning, and I would assume that many others would like it as well.

    With you all the way not usually crazy about a 63 in a Morgan as their baggy but this one has wicked nice strike color and eye appeal

    I don't want to be mean here and that is not the intention of the question. I'm just wanting to understand why you would send this coin for CAC cert.

    This is a common date, common grade MS coin. The value of the coin in high retail is ~$75. Why would you want a CAC sticker on it? Yes, it has some attractive toning on the reverse, but it's not monster toning and it's not on the obverse.

    In his first post he basically said he was trying to buy em, bean em, and flip them. Trying to fill a void of beans under a $100.00. I think it's a pretty good idea as I could see people who can't afford expensive coins paying up to a hundred on a green bean regardless of the coin in the holder.

    I hope you're correct. ;)

    And I'm not necessarily flipping them all, as I am building a Type set and keeping a Indian Head Cent, Morgan Dollar, etc if they bean. And a bunch of the first 20 I sent in are from my childhood in the mid 80's, so I'll be keep those too. But essentially, you got it correct. I call it, "The Grand Experiment".

    Yeah, you may be correct. Keep in mind, one of the things I am doing with the first 40 coins I sent to CAC is just to "test the waters" I am refining how and what I buy, refining which coins I send it, and even how I send it in (see insurance thread). I am also testing the theory that people will spend a small premium for lower end CAC coins. I want to see they Types of coins that DO and DONT get stickered. In some ways, I already have a feel for this as I've been looking at and buying CAC coins for 2 years, but this is a sped up trial by fire.

    My only advice would be to sell them as quick as you can while they command a premium. Couple years down the road, CAC may be looked upon with as much restraint as a three year old with a sticker book! :)

    I tend to agree. I don't see the big fuss over the stickers. The more green bean stickers out there, the less "impressive" it is to have one. Go look up WINGS and tell me what you think. (wingscoins.com)

    I'll be interested to hear if the premium you get for the holdered coins with a CAC sticker cover the additional cost of getting it approved.

    I have many coins with a CAC sticker, but I have also passed on many coins with a CAC sticker. I agree that in the marketplace today, CAC'd coins garner a premium. How long that lasts is anybody's guess.

    My most recent addition pictured below has a CAC sticker, but I did not buy the coin because of the sticker. I bought it because I felt it was an "A" coin for the grade and possibly undergraded.

    I now have this coin in hand and it's every bit as nice as the pictures indicated.

    Yes it should CAC for the eye appeal. I think it is high in grade for a 63 also.

    Just wondering what this beauty graded at , by the obverse only I say 65 , but I do see a couple tiny hairlines on Liberty's cheek that will keep it from anything higher .

    I'll say yes for the CAC. Nice color(in my opinion). Beautifully struck coin. Great details and should have no problem receiving a CAC!
