1973 D Number Error

Discussion in 'Error Coins' started by MyNameIsCody07, Feb 22, 2014.

  1. So just finished up going through my first box of pennies. Found 9 Wheats and a few Canadian, nothing really special. I did however run across this penny. I am really new to any type of coin collecting so I am not sure if this is any kind of error or just something that happened while the coin was in circulation.

This was taken with a crappy camera on my phone so it may be hard to see but to me it looks like the 9 and the 7 are connected to each other. Almost like the die was cracked or something when this coin was struck. 1973.JPG

Remember I am new to this so if this is nothing let me know and Ill place it in my brain for future reference

While the photo makes it hard to say for sure, it looks to me that it is post mint damage(pmd). Something hit the coin causing the mark you see which is typical of all coins.
