Why is this coin MS62? (no, this is not my coin). Seems nicer than 62, what am I missing? ebay link ngc link (more pics) Mechanical error?
Tha cheek looks good but there's that huge whack on the foe head and hair probably why the 62 I'd have given it no more than a 63 cause of that
That's what I was thinking. The AU58 and MS62 grades are almost interchangeable in that, if the grader is not "sure" that what is being seen is the result of a weak strike or actual wear, then it gets a 62. If the luster is "for sure" gone on the high areas of the coin then it gets a 58. Keeping in mind that a weakly struck coin may not have mint luster on the high spots which, presumably, did not fill the die.
That is a positively rotten strike for an 87 too they made 20 million bad strike plus bad surfaces I'd walk away not like its a hard date to find
Simple answer, and yeah it's already been given but not in these words - because their grading standards have changed.
