I don't see a CC on the back and the details don't look right. Might just be the pictures. Anyone else? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1882-CC-Mor...09?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a8baacfcd
CC is there, but really weak. Not sure if because of photo angle/light or strike/die issue. Might definitely be counterfeit slab.
I think the 5 in Series:52 looks off as well.... I believe this one is counterfeit. I'm no expert on PCGS Slabs but based on pictures of other slabs, it looks off.
I see your point. The 7's and 1's are different as well. Different font completely. Whether or not that means counterfeit, I wouldn't know.
I scanned the barcode, and it was correct. I believe this is the same slab generation (see pictures below). I don't see any difference between the two.
I'm not seeing anything on the holder that makes me think fake. I can't have an opinion of the coin as I can't really see much of it clearly.
I don't have the knowledge to tell if it's real or fake. I pulled the photo off of eBay and can just make out the CC using Photoshop to enlarge and sharpen the area of the mint mark. Those are some really bad photos!
The counterfeiters quite some time back had gotten clever enough to use valid PCGS certification numbers for the coin cum slab they're forging. While this one may be just fine, here's some sobering reading (and I apologize if everybody's seen this already): http://www.pcgs.com/News/Counterfeit-Pcgs-Holders One thing to consider is that after almost six years since the above alert was put out, a lot of these may have changed hands several times and consequently acquired some seeming legitimacy.
Pics are so bad I can't tell anything clearly those old green labels look like something from high school shop class tho they often have great coins in them
This is not an OGH. Clearly Condor would be the one to answer this for certain, but to my eyes it looks to be a PCGS 8.
My opinion is purely based on the photos given. Yes, they are not clear and yes, I could be wrong. My first instinct was that something was wrong with the slab, not the coin. Second instinct was such a weak CC on the reverse (I typically haven't seen a mm that weak on an 82-cc). I can't give exact details of what looked off, didn't spend a whole lot of time going over every pixel. I just know (from personal experience) to avoid items that look suspect. This item does look suspect to me, and I'm not the only one, hence the reason for this thread.
I don't see anything wrong with the slab. It is a PCGS 8, the counterfeits didn't start until three years after this variety was discontinued. I've never seen a fake slab of this holder generation. The CC is there on the coin but the photography is bad. The coin is washed out making the mintmark hard to see, I also think it is a little out of focus which doesn't help.
The pics look fishy...seems fake. I honestly cant see the CC and I zoomed in ALL the way....IDK maybe I am just getting old MJH
Did you end up buying this coin? If Conder101 believes the holder is genuine, than IMO, it's genuine. Based on the lousy photos offered by the seller, I would not buy this coin. It's likely real, but it's a common date morgan in a common grade. There are plenty to choose from with pictures that are in focus. IMO, when a seller doesn't take the time to offer a clearly focused picture, he/she is either trying to hide something or your taking your chances with the coin. Be patient and you'll be glad you did!
