Need a Little help Here. I just purchased some Sealed 1969 Mint sets. They did not have the Govt. Paper inside ,like other mint sets I have purchased. Are all mint Sets ( 1969) supposed to have the Govt. Printed Card Inside. The Envelope was barely sealed and I suspect a possible Hanky panky . Thanks
It's possible that the seller got these sets REAL CHEAP because they didn't have the COA, but the envelopes are rarely sealed anyway. If the cello-wrap has been tampered with, it should be fairly evident. Chris
Yes it's been open beforehand and yellowish or orange cert was not put back in envelop . It sounds like full photo would help,to see whatsoever is missing .
I've never seen a printed COA or anything other than a blank card inside a Mint Set from that era. As far as the envelope being sealed, I consider that just a gimmick. If they were even sealed to begin with, after 40 years practically all of them have come open.
In that era you got two sleeves of coins and two pieces of plain cardboard. That's it. Starting in '84 they included cards with the coin specs and in 2002 they first started including an actual COA .
These sets were never sealed. It is believed a few of the pre-'65 sets were shipped sealed but no '69 mint set was intentionally sealed by the mint. '69 mint sets are none too pretty and the Philly coins are usually bad. Nice attractive examples of most of these coins get tougher every year. Many of the mint sets now are corroded. Nice brilliant coins are an exception and even brilliant coins tend to be low grade.
the 1969 Mint Set cents are usually junky too Mint and Proof Sets were never sealed by the Mint, so anyone who claims that they are Mint sealed is not a good person to buy them from because they clearly don't know what they're talking about.
My understanding is those sets didn't come from the mint sealed. The envelope was actually unsealed. The fact that they are now "sealed" either means that they sat in a box over time and humidity sealed them...or someone else did. Either way, none of those "original sealed" sets are eBay were actually sealed at the mint. At least, that's what I have been told my multiple sources.
