I have this 2002 Mississippi quarter that is gold plated only on the head side. Where there many made like this or is it a defective coin? I've looked on the internet quite a bit and haven't found any such coins. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome aboard. It sounds like you have a coin that has been privately electroplated.

You have a novelty item, plated privately, that is worth 25¢.

Or: Perhaps it is missing the clad layer and he assumes that he is looking at 'gold'?
    By the way, welcome

Thanks to everyone for replying. I would go to the car and get it so I can look at it more closely, except it's snowing quite a bit here in Kansas and I'll just worry about it tomorrow.
I don't think it's missing the clad layer since the gold-looking side is the copper? side and it's not copper color. It might be a novelty item. I was very perplexed by the coin's appearance.

I'd get a picture of it and post it here just to be sure.

The TV shopping networks sell these by the truckload so it's not unusual that some would find their way into circulation. But they're still worth only a quarter.
