http://www.ebay.com/itm/23114400795...l?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=231144007952&_rdc=1 Does this coin look DCAM? The listing didn't mention it having the designation.
The title says PR-69. I don't see that anywhere on the label. I don't think the coin got graded. Looks like a specialty slab. IMO if no grade then it follows that no DCAM either.
It probably got graded and is a dcam. Here is the slab he had pictured. The grade etc. is on the other side not pictured in the op's listing. (from eBay)
I did a little more digging. Found the info is on the back of these slabs. Still without a photo of the back it was concerning lol. I'll just have to wait till it arrives to make sure of the designation/grade. Either way they have a return policy and I was only looking for an example coin. Thanks y'all.
I think you are going to be fine. For about the last 40 years...the mint as ensured that their proofs are at least CAM and I haven't seen a slabbed one that isn't DCAM produced in the last 30 years. This coin looks DCAM to me.
I don't understand, you'd prefer a DCAM to a noDCAM? A no-DCAM coin like that would be so much more interesting and expensive. Coin looks DCAM but could be at least a cool label error.
Yeah I wasn't overly concerned. It was cheap, had a return policy, and I was only looking to get a type example. I just thought I'd get the communities thought. Two heads better than one...
further evidence as to why i only buy NGC graded coins...the purpose of a slab is to display the authenticity, grade, serial#, etc....not some silly picture. i know all TPGs fancy up their slabs...but this is just silly
I agree it is silly, but NGC is just as guilty as PCGS. Remember, both are businesses trying to make a profit...and the fancier they make something, the more will buy in.
you're missing the point of my post. at least on the gold buffalo you posted, one can see all of the relevant information...
I'm not missing the point at all...you said "the purpose of a slab is to display the authenticity, grade, serial#, etc....not some silly picture." All the info you want is on the Presidential Dollar slab...they just have all that info on the back and some basic Presidential history on the front. The only difference with the Buffalo is the picture and coin info is on the same side. The NGC slab is even "retro black" which is a complete sales gimmick. Sure, it's cheesy (both are)...but all the coin info is there.
i cannot believe we are debating this. you just quoted the part that defines my point. i underlined the part of yours that indicates where you are diverging. on.the.back. if you look at my post, i even add the caveat that NGC does silly pictures as well. the whole point was that this information should be the FIRST thing, and being first, it should be on the FRONT. thats all.
Yes, the picture in the listing looks DCAM; however, this is not the coin you will receive. The seller doesn't mention this, but he has multiple coins to sell, so he has a generic picture in his listing. Don't be surprised if the coin you receive is a PF69 with no cameo.
