I have been collecting 1960 and older pennies since I was a kid, and today I decided to look through them to see if there were any 1960-P small dates. I found four. Does anyone know how many of these were minted? The red book doesn't say. They're well circulated so I don't expect to get rich off of them, but it was neat to find out that I had them.
Not too shabby that you have 4. I've searched $7,250 worth of cents so far and have come up with squat.
I'd say you were VERY lucky. Nobody knows how many of the 1960P small dates were minted, impossible to say.
I have a 1960 P and D small date cent. Looks to be AU or UNC. I haven't taken them out of their cardboard holder. It's from a small/large P and D 1960 set. I'll post pics when I get more time.
I've never heard a mintage for this, although at one time I'd read some people who guesstimated the mintage around 2 million.
I knew there was a reason why I collected 1959 and 1960 pennies. It paid off for me after all these years. Not that they're worth anything - just knowing that they're uncommon is enough satisfaction for me. I couldn't tell you if I found these pennies in 1984 or 2014 because all my pennies are in one container.
My fiance' bought the set for $3.00 I think from a friend of ours who had them "laying around for a long time." It was in a lot of coins we purchased, she saw them and asked how much.
Small dates were made for proofs and circulation. I have no idea how many small dates were made for each though.
