Thread #05 where I ask the fine members of CoinTalk their opinions on a coin I have already sent to CAC for review. Please let me know what you think, such as: Will it fail to CAC, and why? Will it be a green or gold CAC sticker? What (negative) issues does the coin have? What positive attributes does the coin have? Is the strike good or bad? Is the toning pretty or ugly? etc Up for consideration is a 1944 50C Walking Liberty Half NGC MS65 in NGC4 "No Line Fattie" holder. Some nice crusty toning on the Obverse.
I feel like this example may fail, that is because the toning i don't think will help also their looks to be a few little hit marks on the coin that might keep it from the Green bean i can guarantee you that it will not make Gold Bean. I would say the plus on this coin is the Reverse their are nice orange streaking detail is great, what hurts the back is the black around the rim and it looks like their is a small scratch between the wing and the beak !! Obverse is not very appealing to me sorry !! This coin does have a chance at the Green bean but i personally don't think you will get it !! Sorry some of your other coins have better chances !!
Thanks for your detailed thoughts on this coin. I do agree that the Obverse is the weak link here, although I think both sides have a decent strike, (see the thumb and skirt areas). The black flaky toning is sure to turn some people off, no doubt.
I'd say 50% chance on a green bean hard to see from my screen with that type of toning if there's any marks I can't see not gonna go gold tho just not a strong enough strike or eye appeal
