Hello all, not new to the forum just couldn't remember my user name and password so had to make a new account. With that said I have a question for you all as I am not well versed with Paper Money. Today I went to the ATM and withdrew $40. Much to my surprise I received (2) $20 bills which were consecutive star notes, serial numbers are JE12024387 and JE 12024388 with a 2009 Date on them. Are these worth keeping or should I spend them? Where would I look to see if they are worth more than face value? And do they get a bonus since they are consecutive serial numbers? Thanks for the help!
It's from a print run of over 4.4 million, so they are not rare. Unless they are CHCU condition (basically as new as possible) I think they are spenders. If they are CHCU...they might carry a very small premium if you can find the right buyer. But, even then I don't think the value is worth the effort. Notes this new are heavily searched and are common. I would spend them.
As Choice Crisp Uncirculated, they might be worth $22 each if you have consecutive notes. They'll increase in value over time, but it will take a decade before you see anything worth selling over. You'll lose any profit to shipping and auction fees until then. However a quarter pack (25 consecutive) or more will have a bigger premium. If I get two consecutive notes like that I take out add much as I can. A quarter pack might bring $25 each. A pack will increase in value faster than a couple of consecutive notes. If they are uncirculated and you can afford to tie up $40, keep them. Otherwise spend them.
