Are NGC slabs ugly?

I personally think that the NGC slabs look more like something a museum would use. Since a major reason I collect is showing my coins to people, I would prefer the NGC slabs. However, I have very few coins that are slabbed, so it is of little difference to me. I do agree that gold coins look really nice in the NGC retro holders, though I don't have any room for gold in my budget. I think the retro holders would look nice on just about any cameo proof coin as well. In other words, Vanilla.

Not so much the slabs as are the cheesy labels NGC comes out every other week.
but add overlapping white prongs on top of the coin with a cheesy label and yes u have a ugly slab

 

so i am curious, if you purchase a slabbed coin, which TPG do you choose to work with? do you stay in the top tier and default over to PCGS? because we all know they don't have their own "reinvented wheel", cartoonish goofy holograms/labels/etc themselves...

i don't normally slab my coins, but when i do, i choose the non-marketing-ploy goofy PCGS holders...fail

 

Nice Dos Equis impersonation, but if you are going to call marketing ploy, PCGS isn't the only one. That is a fact. At least NGC and ANACS does it as well.

If I am going to slab, it's going to be with PCGS. Call me a Kool-Aid drinker, etc. Doesn't really matter. It's what I prefer and that's all that counts. But I will buy any coin slab or otherwise. My last two coins I bought are in NGC holders. The slab has no affect on the beauty of the coins.





The coin outweighs the holder.

 

I submitted a bunch of gold, and silver eagles for the Fall Retro Holder grading promotion.
I think they look great with the black compared to the white.

 

I do like the black retros , but man I hate that buffalo label . For me it makes the whole slab look cheesy .

I'd say coins , as I have just about every slab . It's the coin that matters , we're just answering the ops question . I do glance at the slab but I really look at the coin , if I like the coin , it could be in a self slabbers slab . Plus I have broken coins out of many of the top if it's all scuffed up .

 

PCGS is a slight favourite. I like how the frosted clear plastic hides scratches on their slabs. Clear and textured has a more classy look to it. The only thing is that those feet chip or crack off and can be sharp. This can scratch the heck out of other slabs.

That looked like crap on black with the white and brown labels. Yuck!

Yeah, the NGC ones seem more prone to scuffs, scratches and wipe hairlines. This does obstruct the view a lot. They claim to be more scratch resistant, now. We'll see.
