These are very large coins. I see some for sale but I am not sure how much these coins are counterfeit and the prices are wildly different on german ebay. Can anyone direct me to a good reliable source or if they arent copied a lot, then I will just bid on one...thanks... this one is being sold for 150 dollars but I see ones that are in similar shape (maybe just a bit worse) for 10 - 15 bucks or less...I would like to aquire one of these but I dont want to buy a fake...thanks
Drusus, you never see the big brass ones, but the aluminium ones do occasionally turn up.I am not aware of any forgeries of the Westphalian Notgeld token series. Aidan.
I have a big brass one but it has notches puched all over it (one on the obv and about 15-20 on the rev). I saw a few on sale on german ebay as well...aluminum ones too. If they arent commonly copied then I will go ahead and bid. Its just that none of the sellers I trust have this type of coin so I am forced to try a new seller and I dont like to do that when possible. I prefer to buy from those I am familar with but I want one of these in better shape.
Drusus, you can call that a spacefiller. When you get a better one,you will have to put the spacefiller up on eBay. Aidan.
German notgelds of this design are very popular. I saw made of iron, brass, bronze and aluminium. In my city they cost about $20. Next time I`ll make some photos of another notgelds...
I have the copper one. When I was England, a dealer gave me the piece as a gift, since I bought all his other Notgeld stuff (around $20 or so). I've seen them around. For me, I wouldn't pay $150 unless someone was interested in varieties.
I have several that I got while in Germany - aluminum, bronze, gold plated. Also, be aware thatthere are many different denominations of thee - that may account for some of the price variation.
this is being offered for 30 dollars, I think I might go for it, its in pretty good shape and not terribly expensive.
Drusus, that is a very nice piece.I reckon that is a bargain at US$30.Does anyone else apart from me,notice the word 'Fuhrer' in the obverse inscription? Aidan.
Maybe not a bargain, but certainly not overpriced either. Many of these Westfalen "coins" are in pretty good condition, since they were not issued or used for circulation but as fundraisers. The one trillion ("1 Billion") mark piece, diameter 60 mm, even came out after the hyperinflation and was sold at a price of 2.50 RM. As for "Führer", well, that simply means "leader" or "guide" - pretty common in German before and after the years that English language people will associate with the word. (When you want to buy a travel guide in a bookstore here, for example, you look for a Reiseführer ...) The inscription of the Westphalian piece means "Germany's leader at a hard time". Christian
I thought it should be a bit cheaper to be a real bargain but its in nice shape and as I look at the ones I find for sale...its about mid priced, some are far more expensive while other are a bit cheaper but have more problems so I went with this one...plus it was being sold in a set of several others smaller denomination and the guy agreed to break the set up so I decided to go for it and end the search
The billion mark coin comes in both 60mm and 61mm sizes. I have both of them. In fact I am only missing a couple of the varieties in the series.
Here are some another notgelds: 15 pfennig 1918, Zn, Munchen and 10 pfennig 1919, Fe, Trier. I hope you like them.
The 15 pf piece is interesting. Nowadays, when I read about such "odd" face values, I tend to think, oh, probably some commem that never shows up in "real life" anyway. In this case, however - well, that coin was very likely made for and used in circulation ... Christian
I decided to get the billion...it looks just the same as all the others but the novelty of having a billion mark coin drove me to it
