I think I have found 1970-D DDR-006. There is a thread from 2010 where a member here, 19lyds, discovered this die. Thanks go to him for starting the thread. If not I wouldn't have had any pics to go by. Here is the link to the thread: http://board.conecaonline.org/showthread.php?t=2830. Also, the clash from arrow tip to wing is present, but polished. It is described for stage C (LDS) on variety vista. UNITED, QUARTER, & the clash is what led me to search for pics of 006. What do you guys think & if you need any other pics let me know. Thanks all! Here is the info copied from variety vista: 1970-D DDR-006 Designation: 6-R-III+V-CW from K-1 Description: Medium spread on QUARTER, lower branches, leaves, inside wing feathers, and stems with CW rotational spread on UNITED Markers: Reverse is RDV-006/RDV-007 Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed) Stage B: MDS (unconfirmed) Stage C: Die clash from wing to leaf in front of arrow tips – LDS Numerous die scratches on Obverse – LDS Reported by: Lee Lydston
Cool! Night I suggest that you forward it to James Wiles for validation? The DDR for the 70-D is very difficult to attribute. As a matter of fact, I used to own an FS-801 that in reality was not an FS-801 even though PCGS had attributed it as such.
Thanks Lee. I was really hoping to get your input since you discovered this die. I had planned to label it as the 006 & set it aside to send to Dr. Wiles. It will drive me crazy until I know for sure. Thanks again, for responding and discovering!
I, uhhh, bought a roll of 70-D's off of eBay that was loaded with DDR coins. Well, it had about 10 or so and I just sent a bunch in to James since I had no clue as to what I was looking at. So, really, its not like I discovered anything as much as James Wiles did the "discovering". The one thing about CONECA which bothers me is the knowledge level which one must have in order to interpret the textual definitions of a doubled die. For example, if its listed as Class III then, well, you'd better know how to identify a class III. If its a Class VI then you'd better know what a Class VI is. I always have difficulty in determine exactly what class a doubled die coin might be but then sometimes I have no idea where I put my glasses either!
