    I got my first slabbed coin today. its a 1991 kennedy half, pcgs pr69 dcam. i know the pr means proof, and.the 69 is the grade. what does the dcam mean? probably a stupid question, but im new to.graded coins. also is the pcgs price guide reliable? where does its values come from? when i looked up the slab numbers on pcgs website, with all the information, it has a value of $21. value doesnt really bother me becahse i only paid $9 for the coin.

    dcam means deep cameo. It's what you get with most proof mint sets now. It's a designation for the proof. You can't really trust any price guide, ie PCGS, NGC, redbook. They usually don't match what coins are ACTUALLY selling for. If you want accurate pricing look on eBay under "completed listing" and you can see how much people are bidding buying. Hopes this helps.

    Common grade and designation for a modern proof. Congrats still.

    I bet it's a beautiful coin . Price guides are just that a guide , you have to remember for each grade there are low end coins that just barely made the grade , solid coins that are in the middle and high end coins that almost made the next higher grade . Each coin will sell for less if it's on the low side and more for the high side . Then there's eye appeal , say a coin that's a solid 65 has great toning and beautiful colors , in some cases it will sell for 3 to 5 times the amount listed . So you can see there are many variables that come into place for the price of a coin .

    please dont take offense to this.

    but when buying coins, you should know what all of the terms referring to your coin mean...how else would you know if you got ripped off?

    I'm going to second this caution. Feel free to ask the forum questions, there's tons of experience here.

    I bet it's a nice coin.

    I figure this question will come up, so I'll answer it now.

    DCAM = Deep Cameo (PCGS)
    UCAM = Ultra Cameo (NGC)

    Deep Cameo = Ultra Cameo

    My first slabbed coin was a Kennedy Proof too!

    9 dollars is a fair price no steal because that is usually what they sell for but hey look at it this way if you had one graded it would have cost you more then that coin cost you !!
