http://www.nhcoinexpo.com/?page_id=22 It is starting Friday, runs into Saturday. One of New England's better shows, draws collectors and dealers from northern NE.
@Owle, thanks for the like. I added it to favorites and subscribed to emails. @Mainebill, I guess we can add the Manchester shows to our idea list for the spring / summer.
I spoke with Steve of Steve's Coins and Collectibles, one of the main dealers who will be there and he said the coming snowstorm could create problems.
I just checked weather.gov, and it is showing around 4-7 inches late Thursday when dealers usually set up.
What else is new it always snows in New England if I weren't down in Nashville (where it's almost as cold as Maine) I'd go snow never stops me all my vehicles are 4 wheel drive
Yup, Subaru all the way for my family, we blast right through the snow. I own a Legacy and a Forester, and two other family members own Forester as well. We had a birthday party here last week, and it was like a freakin Subaru convention.
Lol I'm not kidding on the redneck Cadillac I usually drive a f 350 powerstroke diesel 4x4 quad cab long bed is a land yacht!! Only problem is parking it! got an old gmc 2500 4x4 plow truck beater and a grand Cherokee too I got friends that got subarus and they'll go anywhere and run forever
A major NH dealer said that it isn't necessarily your vehicle and driving you need to worry about but other drivers who have learned to throw caution to the winds. You never know when you could be a victim of reckless drivers or bad conditions and this has been one of those stressful winters when accidents are becoming more likely.
I started up late yesterday to drive to Manchester, but turned around half way, conditions were just too treacherous and the sneakers on my Subaru are up to driving in much snow.
I live right next to Manchester literally next town over and the storm wasn't really anything overall. The roads were ok locally for the most part for anyone used to New England weather. I'll be stopping by the show today and again tomorrow with my kids seeing as the oldest still had school today.
Fine here in Portland, Maine. Getting icy now on top of snow, but no big deal. This is Maine! But I am not traveling to show, need the $$$ first. I'm sad that the dealers will probably have a bad show if everyone stays away.
I just bought a few coins at the show. I've never seen so many foreign coins being offered in one place. A dealer was selling a 1952 graded "superbird" quarter. I would've loved to have purchased it but I didn't have enough cash. I was able to get a few coins I've been searching for. After this show, I need to study more and start to play with the big boys.
It has excellent security for a show of this size. Good location. One thought: if I can't find another collector to go to shows like this and collaborate on expenses, it may be a sign that it is too independent an activity for me to drive that far alone.
I spent a couple hours there today with my wife, five year old daughter and nine month old son. I will say that both my wife and I were off put by quite a few dealers there that were just rude or completely ignored us when we approached their tables. Not sure if they seem to think because were younger people that we didn't have money to spend or what but it was pretty shameful behavior. I still ended up spending a good amount of money though with some great vendors. One dealer who once completely ignored us at his table not even bothering to say 'hi' or get up out of his seat the first time we looked at it (and we were the only people there at the moment). Who also then walked away from his table completely and ignored my wife a second time when she wanted to look at and purchase some classic commemoratives, was probably the worst dealer experience of all. That same dealer then actually tried to get me to come over to his table and buy a certain date gold coin I was looking for. I was inquiring at another dealer who didn't have that date and he happened to overhear what I was looking for walking by. I politely informed him why I would not be patronizing his table at all. I mean were not that young early 30's; but quite a few dealers wouldn't give us the time of day or watched us with a hawk eye like we were thieves or something. Very different from last years show where I had no issues what so ever. Not sure if they had theft problems last year or not but it's a small venue and I think 3 police officers were on hand which I believe matched last year not sure. There were though quite a few wonderful vendors that were friendly, welcoming to not only us but our children as well. I made sure to spend a chunk of money with each one of those vendors in return as a simple return of common courtesy even if they didn't have things I was particularly in the market for. Debating whether to return tomorrow or not as my oldest daughter was in school and missed out on the show. Depending on whether she wants to go or not I may make a second trip back for her to pick up some coins.
