Anyone going to the Northern Va. Coin show in Vienna, VA, this weekend. I was planning on going tomorrow but it doesn't look promising at this point. I have to go to Centerville anyway and its just a shame not to be able to slip over for a little while. I usally fine a few RPM's to add to my collection everytime I go.

This is the first I've heard of it ...where is it being held and do you know the hours?

My Bad, it is next week 1/27. I might be able to make it after alland its called the Vienna Quarterly Coin & Stamp Show. It has been in the same place for at least the 10 years I've been in the area. Here's a link with direction and all.

Great. Thanks, I'll have to check that out. I've never been to a coin show before ... so I guess I'm ripe for the plucking.

Well since this is your first coin show I'll fill you in on this one. As far as shows go this one is in a small room (To small in my opinion), very crowded. There is barely enough separation between displays for someone to be looking at a display on each side of the isle and for a third person to slip by. There are approx 40 to 50 tables. Every time I have gone to this show (as many as 20 times over the last 10 years) there has always been a lot of people there.
I like the roominess of some other shows but I have always cherry picked very well at this show.
Hope you get to make it and find something nice. Good Luck.

Well, I haven't really done anything with that and kind of forgot about it. Maybe I'll just show up at a show at somepoint with a T-shirt to that affect. I have my calendar marked with 7 or 8 shows in the area throughout the year.

Thanks for the information and the link. I've got it booked marked now. I'll check out the one in Vienna on Sunday to see what I can find ..but then again I need to decide what I'm looking for :)

I won't be there. Not even sure where VA is let alone Northern VA. Oddly enough this is the first weekend in the last 20 years that I haven't gone to at least one coin show. I normally go to 2 to 4 coin shows a Month around here.
Andrew289, If this is your first coin show, think of it as a flea market for coins. Never, ever buy a coin you see, like and want at the first table you go to. Even if you miss out on what you think is a good deal, check out the whole place first. Do not just buy a coin, always haggle or try to chew down the dealer from thier prices. Try to remember that the dealers are usesd to people not wanting to pay what ever price they first state or have written on a coin so they raise the prices knowing you will offer less. Sort of like buying a used car, house or anything where prices are negotiable. If you look to interested in a coin the dealer will read that and not go down as much in price. Coin shows are just a big game for prices and if you don't play, you will loose. Good luck

Just Carls' advise is very sound.
I usually ask: "So, what is the non-tourist price?"
Or: 'How much is it on the sheet?'
The dealer knows that I am referring to the grey sheet, and if they won't look it up then the price is too high, nut this rarely happens.

This describes a monthly local coin show. There is one in Burlington NJ. Like the 2nd Sunday of every month. I agree, this one is 40-50 tables, very crowded. Very little elbow room. You can wait for up to half an hour, just to see the offerings of a particular dealer, as some non-buying moron sits down at the one chair, and blocks the whole display.

It must have thinned out. I got there about 11:00am and spent about an hour squeezing through the masses. It was interesting to see. I spent more time looking for place to park. Next time, I'll come prepared to buy this was mostly recon and I saw a few nice tables that I'd love to look at in more detail.

Has anyone ever been to the one out in Dulles at the Expo Center?

I think the one at Dulles Expo is a new show. I haven't heard of it before but there is plenty of parking there and they should have plenty of floor space as well.

I got to the Vienna show around 11:30 and spent about 2 hours. Picked up 4 Jefferson Nickel RPM's and 1 Doubled die.

    1942S RPM#4
    1944S RPM#1
    1945P RPM#69

    1943P RPM#25
    1938 DDO #8

The first 3 paid top $ for this dealers prices are high and would have been rediculious for if they where not RPM's and where higher than what I usually am willing to pay.
The last two I cherrypicked from a 1/2 off trash coin box (do not know what you actually call these boxes heaped full of an assortment of coins in flips and 2X2's) and paid $8.00 for both. The 1938 DDO 8 has what I believe to be PVC on it, which I plan to dip in acetone tonight, but for 3 bucks it is a real nice find.
