Top 5 lowest minted U.S. Coins in your collection?

Well the title is a little confusing, but what are your top 5 U.S. Coins in increasing order by mintage?

Here's mine:

1879 Seated Liberty 50¢ Proof 1,100 Minted

1941 Mercury 10¢ Proof 16,557 Minted

1942 Walking Liberty 50¢ Proof 21,120 Minted

1942 Jefferson War 5¢ Proof 27,600 Minted

1913 Indian $10 Gold 442,000 Minted

5 1994 P American Silver Eagle proofs 372,168 Minted

 

I don't buy proofs so I figured I wouldn't have anything of low mintage.
But then I remembered that my Saint-Gaudens 1907 High Relief Double Eagle might be on the low side.
Yep, the Red Book says only 12,367 struck, and that combines both the Wire Rim and Flat Rim varieties (mine is a Wire Rim).
So that means something less than the reported number.

 

They dont have to be proofs to be the lowest mintage coins in your collection. Do you mind sharing the other 4 lowest mintages that you have.

Its ok if they are in the millions or hundreds of thousands made.

Im really just interested to see what folks have for their lowest mintage coins in their collection. I wasnt expecting mine to be all proofs until I sat down and figured some numbers out.

I think Peace dollars will come in high in the group since alot of those were below a million minted.

 

Proof type, classic commems, modern bullion and First Spouse coins will generally dominate any such list that is put together by most folks. A more interesting or revealing question might be to ask what are the lowest regular issue, business strike coins in your collection.

 

This will take me a while.
My type set will require me to spend some time with my Red Book.

 

And even then the responses won't be that revealing.
On top of how many were struck there is the consideration of how many still exist.

A classic example would be the 1933 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle.
445,500 were struck BUT only one is known to be in private hands.
The US Gov't has about 15 more.

How bout the lowest coin/coins found in circulation of low mintage? I have found a 1916D 10c Merc 264,000 and a 1932D 25 cent Qt. 436,800. I have others that I have acquired, but the ones found in circulation, are special.
Other: 1909svdb cent, 1864L IN Cent, 1909s IH Cent, 1922 cent, 1914d cent, 1921 5oCent, 1921d 50Cent

One asked how long ago, did I find the 1916d and the 1932d. The 1916d about 1957 in change. The 1932d in the till of a Kroger store that I working at in 1963.

 

I'd say you were quite fortunate finding all those in circulation. How long ago did you find these? Were they in rolls or did you find them in change?

Same problem with many of my other candidates.
Many of my coins come in several varieties but production is all lumped together for the same date.
So I can't include them because I don't know.

So here's the next four that I DO know based on the Red Book:

21,760 - 1800 Heraldic Eagle Reverse Dime
24,000 - 1800 Heraldic Eagle Reverse Half Dime
33,500 - 1908, No Motto Eagle
36,501 - 1888 Nickel 3-Cent

 

#1 1805 draped bust 1/2 dollar, 211,722 minted



I don't think I have any other US coins with a relatively low mintage.

 

They don't have to be a general low mintage. Just the lowest from your collection.

If all you have is 3 Lincoln's in 100,000,000 mintage and 2 Jeffersons the same, just list them out. I'm curious to know what coins just happen to be the lowest minted in folks collection. It's not really a competition or anything. Just an excuse to show off some coin pictures and see if there are any trends.

Also this thread does allow folks to see other low mintage coins that you may not think about.

Someone earlier posted a low mintage relatively newer nickel that piqued my interest. Which is exactly why I started this thread. I never knew it existed.

 

By the way guys, keep up the posts. There's some great coins being talked about and posted and I for one am enjoying reading about them.

 

There is a 1994 Jefferson matte finish with a mintage of only 100,000 which you can get PCGS SP69FS for only about $50 and the 1997 matte finish with a mintage of only 25,000 with the same grade from PCGS for about $150.
