So I bought this Pillip ll Tetracrachm slab and posted it here for review. No one saw an issue with it. So I get the coin and there are many things wrong with it. The eagle is facing the opposite way from the one in the eBay ad, there is a fair amount of rust and pitting on the reverse and the eBay ad shows none. The registration numbers are exactly the same as the ad as on the one I received. Also the flash over on top and bottom is different. So am I crazy or is this a scam? How on earth is this possible? Thanks for helping me Encyclopedia Brown it or Poirot it. So this is the coin I bought and the photos are taken off of eBay.
The number on the coin is not the same. I only read the last few digits. So from what I can see this is possibly not a fake or scam, they just may have sent the wrong coin. They have a lot of sales and 100% feed back. So I sent them an email to see what their response is. Its not worth the same IMO as the one I bought. That one was in better condition. Thanks for any advise. Man I was upset when I saw that coin drop out of the packet.
Before I would call it a bait-and-switch, I would look closely at the ad and see if it is a stock photo. The coin is a graded tet, and if you don't like it, you can always open a case with e-bay as "not as represented". I don't think you'll get hurt. Could you post the listing?
Two different coins - as others have said, the numbers are different. I would check the listing you won and confirm that the coin in the pictures is the one you should have received, then work it out with the seller or if that doesn't work, escalate it to EBay. If it's an honest mistake, the seller should switch it for the one you won, which I agree looks much better.
Go to the NGC site for “verify NGC certification” These two coins are the ones shown for their respective numbers. Hopefully, you will be able to get the correct coin from the seller if they have it or at least get a refund if you do not want this one
Contact the seller after carefully checking the ad. They may have shipped the wrong coin. If you can not resolve send it back using eBay’s policies.
There are some sellers on Ebay that list something like "Will receive a Ch XF blah blah", and have multiple examples that fit the general description. They will then show pictures of a cherry picked example and send you one of the, uh, not so cherry examples. Not saying that is what happened here, but if so, then they will feel justified in not correcting the misunderstanding because, "They never claimed that you would get the coin pictured". But ya, this kind of thing is scammy.
Looked it up... The dealer you purchased it from is a reputable dealer and should take care of you. Obvious that they did ship the wrong coin.
Got a bit freaked out. I figured it out. I found the coin I got on his eBay page. Took some time but I Found it. So I did get an email back and as I figured out he grabbed the wrong coin. It just looked very strange at first. So sending it back and getting the coin I bought. Thanks.
A number of us including myself felt a mistake was made. Glad you contacted the seller and that it all worked out the way it should.
Glad it worked out. I've had this sort of thing happen to me on eBay before (though not on a slab) - generally it is from dealers who handle a lot of low-grade, poorly-described coins. I've never felt it was anything other than an honest mistake - we usually sort it out, sometimes I wind up keeping the "wrong" coin because it is just as good or better than what I'd bid on.
He is doing the right thing. He refunded me the money on the coin before I sent it back. It goes out today. then I bought the coin I already have and will ship back today and he is shipping me the right coin. A small mess but things happen. I think the thing that made me feel it was a scam is my eyes saw the two coins with the same number. They are not the same but close enough I did not catch it at first. I thought they had to be faking slabs. I have seen the Chinese faking slabs before. I guess I am a bit skittish on getting fakes.
A couple of times I have received someone’s order and someone has received mine. It’s always been amicably resolved (so far!).
