Hey friends, I thought it would be interesting to see how long you've been selling on ebay? I thought of a couple of questions to start this discussion off. It's not just about selling.

How long have you been selling/trading on Ebay? It doesn't just mean how long have you been selling, how long have you been buying on Ebay?

If you sell, what was your best selling item that brought you a surprising profit? Or what was your best buy ever on ebay? Include a pic if you can.

Answer however you want to, here's my answers.
I first bought something off of ebay in 2005 or 2006. I've been selling on ebay, off and on since 9/2009.

The best item is this. I bought this item at a coin store in Roseville for $15, I didn't know anything about it. I placed it on Ebay for a no reserve 99 cent auction. It turned out to be a very rare so called dollar, HK-361. It sold for $1225. Needless to say that's the best and biggest deal that has ever happened to me, so far. :D Since then I've learned that it was a fluke and stuff like that doesn't happen all the time. :D HK361_obvTSDollar.jpg

Obv. In center is involved design similar to Exposition Seal above but without bust of Seward and with large spread-winged eagle below 3 female figures; outside, around Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition; below Seattle 1909; wreath around all.
    Rev. Large spray to l.; across To / Commem- / orate the / Visit of / Wm. H. Taft / President of / the U. S. to / the A. Y. P. E. / Sept. 30th / 1909; at lower edge, small Mayer Bros. .900.

    HK-361 Gold-plated Silver. 38mm.

I've been on eBay since 2001.

Some of my most memorable purchases...

A roll of au peace dollars and roll of bu mercury dimes I bought back in 9th grade. They were my first major coin purchases (sold them as I went off to college). Then my seated half that's pictured in my profile that I bought last year for my type set. I love that coin, in person shes AMAZING! I don't sell a whole lot. Still, since 2001 I only have a feedback rating of 150.

Best sell was probably a Chilton fountain pen, but that isn't coin related. I did find a really ratty 2006 $1 serial number 60 (B00000060D) in circulation that brought $51. That was my best recent coin/currency sale, I suppose, if you calculate the ratio between money spent and received.

Sold first item in September of that year.

Biggest profit? Sold a photo that I had taken in the early 1970's for over $1500 after two bidders got into a "bidding war"... the final buyer was a movie producer doing a documentary on the subject of the photo. Things like happen once in a lifetime.

    definer definitely....! LOL

capture8.jpg I was actually on eBay before it was eBay. I joined AuctionWeb in like mid-to-late '97 and then transitioned to eBay in May of '98.

Best coin-related buy was my NGC MS70 Leif Ericsson commemorative.

Been a member since 2003, but had to start over in 2005 when my account got hacked by someone trying to sell a boat and a motorcycle (false listings), and eBay customer service was too inept to salvage my account and i.d.

There have been a few great deals: bought a buy-it-now 1807 small stars capped half for $330 & sold it locally for $1785. Bought an 1800 LIBEKTY draped bust half dime for $1100 & sold it for $3000 after PCGS graded it.

Member since Sept 1998, sold from 2001 to 2008. I tried selling something a bit after that, and had a really scary experience with Seller Protection (or lack thereof). The buyer-seller protection imbalance has kept me from trying to sell any valuable coins so far, but it's led me to gamble successfully on some buys I otherwise wouldn't have considered.

Member since 1998. Never sold coins but have purchased a few. Only dipped my toes into the selling arena a few years ago reselling cds I pick up locally at garage sales or resale shops. By watching certain areas I know what I can buy for a buck and sell for $5-10, which doesn't sound like much (but you make it up in volume, right? ;-) ) but mostly I do it for fun. Most recent sale was a disc I picked up for $5 and sold it for $25. Another time picked one up for $2 and sold it for over $40.

Sold a little bit of stuff but mostly buy. almost 500 items, mostly coins.
I collect the 1st gen holders, PCGS and ANACS, Samples and Photo Certs.
PCGS Doilies, I have found a few at a common coin price and alot of rattlers I have found. In the early days you really had to search the pictures for the rattlers now just search rattlers and 500 come up. The trick is to find them at a reasonably price.
In all those years, only two Items I have never received, one was lost and one was sent to the wrong address and never returned to the seller.
