I'm partial to 1859 - for the following reasons...

    • 5 coins with the Seated Liberty design (1/2 dime, dime, quarter, half dollar, dollar...all from the New Orleans mint!) - I really like the Seated Liberty design and I'm from New Orleans.
    • Indian Head cent -a favorite of mine among cents
    • Silver 3-cent piece - who doesn't like more silver!?

Only thing I would like to have had was a nickel, but I had to compromise :D

Let's here your pick for favorite year and why.

    1916.

Transition year of designs, so many great choices. Barbers, WLH, Mercury dime, SLQ, Buffalo nickel. A great bunch of coins IMO.

1916. Super struck Lincolns for cheap. Plus, many types ended/began that year.

1793 Coins. The amount of design changes.... From Wild Woman and the Chain.. to the more tamed Woman and the Wreath... What an exciting time! It was our First "GO"... .and it took MANY years before they got the process nailed down. If you look at the Sheldon varieties.. In the first 10 years or so... there are HUNDREDS... in the later date series... varieties become fewer and fewer!

I know that the US made coins here and there before 1793.... but I consider this to be the 'birth year'... when US Commerce became an official commonplace.

    1909!!!

Last year of the Indian Cent. First year of the Lincoln Cent.

One year type coin of the VDB Lincoln Cents.

    Some neat cent varieties too.

Last year of the New Orleans Mint.

    Several key-date coins that year.

    I like Barber coinage.

    Beautiful gold designs.

I'll also go with 1909. The S VDB is my bucket list coin. Got to go with that year.

    2009.

I love the 2009 Lincoln series as well as the territory quarters.

Mintages were fairly low for every denomination. ( In terms of modern circulation coinage)

I Rarely ever find a coin dated 2009. They aren't rare, I just like them...

100 years after United States founding so it marks our centennial anniversary. Also a lot of the these coins were the designs circulating throughout the Civil War and shortly thereafter.

*As a note, I am a more of a type collector so I would instinctively have to replace the seated half and quarters with the 1853 designs*

I also can accumulate 1990 and 1890 coins because they are my birth year and the birth year of my maternal grandfather. Also, 1928 for my grandfather
