Greetings! There's a rare variety of 2-cent that is clashed on the reverse with an Indian Head Cent. You can read more about it here: http://maddieclashes.com/1864--2-cent-with-indian-head-cent.html Ever since finding the one featured on that website, I've been working very hard on learning the subtleties of this variety, which is extremely hard to identify on coins lower than AU. Currently I have found and purchased 5 of them, all unattributed, ranging from VG and AU. I plan on sending all 5 to PCGS next week and eventually selling them. My first question is: 5 doesn't sound like many, but there are a total of 27 of them graded by NGC, and PCGS combined, so by adding nearly 20% more to the marketplace, could I cause a mini market crash? Second question: Has there ever been a variety hoard that was found? What was it and what happened to the value? (Now everybody go and check your 2-cents ). Here's one example of mine:
I've got an 1864 with Medal turn not Coin turn minting. Guess I'll dig it out and look. Thanks C-B-D.
I don't know of any clashed with Indian Cents to also have rotated reverses, but it still wouldn't hurt to check!
I went to the Web site in your first post and read the caption under the pics. Perhaps I misinterpeted the last line.
I would say 5 might not impact a market crash that much. I would say if you tried to sell them all at once the bidding might not be too strong. As for a variety hoard found - not one that I heard of. But several variety and error collections have been amassed and sold. I think someone just sold a really cool collection of buffalo nickel errors and such. And yes I did check the pictures on my 1864's.
