Hi, my name is Ed and I am new to this forum. This question may have come up before, but I searched and cannot find the answer. I have been collecting MS Indian Head cents for many years. I recently became interested in making a registry set, so have entered it on the NGC site as The Redfish Set. I have both NGC and PCGS graded coins, and all of the coins are either Photo Sealed by Eagle Eye or CAC. I am now interested in adding my set to the PCGS registry, which only accepts PCGS graded coins. I was thinking about trying to cross my NGC coins to PCGS. I assume most of my NGC coins would cross since they have the EEPS or CAC, but willing to take this risk. My concern with submitting my NGC coins is losing my EEPS or CAC designations, which is important for me to keep. If I cross to PCGS, do I just have to resubmit them later to CAC or EE and take a chance they will certify, or is there somehow a way to track the old to new serial numbers to improve my odds of getting the new slabs CAC or EEPS. Any thought would be appreciated because I want to think this thru before I begin submitting my coins to PCGS. Thanks
youd need to keep proof positive records of the cross over and a letter from pcgs and Ngc stating each coins previoust serial number and upgrade or change to pcgs 's serial number.. then submit ot eeps or cac .. if they require proof.. then if they don't they might just recertify it via pcgs confirmation only.. but try my method for a more secure process
If you were reslabbing at PCGS or reslabbing at NGC, the cost is only $3 to re-sticker at CAC. But since you are attempting to cross them, I am not sure how this is handled. Reason being, you have the potential to go up or down grade(s), altered color designations, etc. If I were to guess, CAC would look at it as a new coin. But since you are obviously into CAC like me, I highly recommend you join this site: http://caccollectors.boards.net/ these guys have been there, done that, with every CAC question you can probably come up with. Also, you could easily email CAC directly and ask: info@caccoin.com
Ed, Of course, you are entitled to do whatever you wish, but personally, I think you would be wasting your money. There is no guarantee that the coins will cross at the same grades or designations (RD, RB or BN) and it might possibly result in a reduction of some values. This is only speculation on my part because I haven't looked at your registry set, and I don't collect IHC's. Chris
CAC is usually fairly flexible regarding their attempts to help collectors. If you have good images of the coins in their current NGC holders and then cross the coins to PCGS holders it may be possible to submit those good images to CAC and request a re-sticker for each coin. This might not be helpful at all since they still have to look at each coin, but at least they would see the certification number on the NGC holders and might be able to identify that these are the same coins in new PCGS holders. An email to CAC would be most beneficial.
I think geek brought up a good point. If the coin had a CAC sticker at MS65 (NGC) and upgrades on the cross to MS66 (PCGS), it may be the case that CAC won't issue the bean.
For the EEPS stickers, I have no idea, but you can e-mail Rick Snow direct at Rick@indiancent.com and I am sure he will be helpful. I know you also get the laminated photo in addition to the sticker so you would need that in the new slab also. Mike
Thanks for all your replies, that is helpful. I have just emailed Rick and waiting for him to reply, I don't know why I didn't think about that. Thanks again.
