I go every couple of months, and I would go more frequently, except for the fact that I have had many rude bank tellers who werent helpful, and seemed to get frusterated with me whenever I asked for a certain type of coin like half dollars, or $2 bills, or the newest roll of state quarters....

Will most banks trade cash in for coins even if you are not a member of their bank?

I try to go about every two weeks and get a few dollars worth of cents. Not bold enought to ask for anything else yet.:rolling:

I haven't gone for several months because I don't have a steady job. But when I do have a steady job I usually get at least one roll every time I cash a paycheck.

Every couple months when i get some time.

I do it more in the winter. In the summer time i'm busy with tons of other outdoor hobbies such as dirt-bike riding, drag racing, autoXing and road racing :) . In the winter time when it snows i need something to do on those snowy cold nights

I get a $500 box of halves and a $100 box of nickels once or twice a month. I searched one $50 bag of cents, but that felt more like work than fun. So far no problems with rude tellers either picking-up or dumping the left overs.

I used to go to the bank quite often when I first started collecting in 1977 and the tellers would let my brother and I sit at a table behind the tellers and search through quarter, half dollar and Eisenhower rolls and let us pick out what we wanted. We never had to buy the rolls and take them home then go back to the bank, but now I only buy rolls at the bank once every few weeks, mostly halves. I havent found any silver at all yet. Maybe I need to go back to that small town bank I went to as a kid and ask them, hmm, I guess as long as it wasnt turned into a pizza shop by now or something. :rolling:

I get at least $1,000 in halves a week, plus at least $50 in cents (more if the bank has more bags).

Whenever I get the chance, but, except for a bunch of half dollars (2 times), I haven't done it in months.

I missed a great chance when I was a kid. My mom used to work in the bank and I never thought of looking through coins. I'd give my left arm to sit in a bank and go through rolls.

Anyway, I only look through rolls when I have the time.

A couple of boxes a couple of times a week.

Usually about 2 boxes of pennies and 2 boxes of nickels a week, sometimes more and sometimes less depending on finances at home and time availability (usually more in the winter and less in the summer). Occasionally I add a box of dimes or quarters though I usually just look through the clear plastic rolls at the bank and buy the ones with silver looking coins in them since it only takes a couple seconds to scan the rolls they have. I also get half dollars when I can find them, or occasionally order a box. About to start trying to get a couple of boxes of halves a week.

Lotsa branches of the banks with which I have accounts so I can spread out cashing in and getting coins such that they usually only see me once every month or two, some banks slightly more than others so tellers don't seem to mind much. That and some of the local banks have installed the self coin counting machines at no charge to customers so all the teller needs to do is handle the paper receipt. I cash in at those branches most often.

I used to go the local casinos late at night, but they have all but gone to strictly paper tickets, so not much benefit for coin hunting any more.

I've only had one bank manager say anything and that was due to teller telling me he'd have a box for me whenever I wanted. So I tried going there more often and after a few weeks the manager approached me and asked me to slow it down (of course the teller never had a box for me either which made it all the more maddening). I asked how often was still acceptable and she said a box a month or so. Every time I have been back there since, they always tell me they don't have any boxes they can sell me, so I just cash in there instead. I get the impression the manager watches coins at that branch like a hawk and if they needed 5 boxes of pennies for the week she would order 3.

Oh well, enough rambling for now and good luck to others as the search continues.

Same as BostonMike, too busy in the summer. I usually go twice a month in the winter. I was doing $100 in halves, but now am up to $200. I get my coins at one bank and turn them in at another since there really ain't too many halves floating around this small town.

Spottedeagle: It depends on the bank, some will and some won't.

    banks

i usualy go through about five boxes of kickels a week. the banks here dont want to give you any thing unless you have a acount with them.i have had branch managers tell me that the coins that i return are better than they get from brinks. the rolls arent short and dont have the garbage in them. she said that they got boxes that were two rolls short. i went to one bank today and was told not to come back for two to three mounths for new nickels. i cant see why banks wolnt exchange change they have the same as before and it is all american money .
