Well I decided to take a photo of a Ft. McHenry quarter that I found in my pocket change. Now this was taken with my iPhone using the macro adapter fort mc henry 2a.png fort mc henry a.png , Led lighting provided by a flashlight and lantern. My electric was off from early AM Wednesday till 9PM Friday. My Comcast from Wednesday till Monday appox. 1300 hrs. (Comcast internet, phone & TV)

I would think one could search half dollar, quarter, and dime rolls, picking out the silver by the pitch. :)

I've experimented with taking coins pictures with just about every kind of light you can think of, even by candlelight.

Starlight, might be a little difficult, but I could see being able to do it by moonlight. But you might be only able to do it during full moons. :)

I've looked at quite a few coins by candlelight especially during ice storms when the powers out

If you locked open the camera shutter for most of the night, you could possibly do it. Besides, taking pictures during the day via the Sun, is by starlight.

At 10,000 feet or more, on a clear night, the Milky Way puts out a lot more light than most would think. And I've spent many a night under those circumstances. Never tried to take a coin pic though :)
