    Easiest way to spot the close date (wide rim) is the distance of the bottom of the 1 from the rim will be equal to or less than the width of the upright of the 1. on the far date (narrow rim) it is 1 1/2 to twice the width of the upright.

    Do not try and identify the two varieties based on the width of the rim below the date because that can vary depending on the centering of the obv die. Go strictly by the distance from the 1 to the rim. Centering will not alter that.
