I don't really find them "rare" but I appreciate the coolness factor of them. If I see some in the cash register of a merchant, I'll ask for those in change & then stash them away at home. I doubt they'll really ever be worth anything but they're just sorta cool. I was with a buddy over the summer at a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game and he attempted to use a $2 bill with one of the vendors...he wouldn't accept it because he didn't think $2 bills were real. Yikes...
Yeah --- I didn't see an option of "I will save them because I think they're cool/not really valuable or rare at all".
i used to save them because they were cool. in 6th grade made a few hundred dollars selling them for $5 each (until my mom found out and lectured me about dishonesty) then i found out the bank kept $200 straps in the vault and i could get a ton of brand new ones if i wanted, so i still save the 1928, 1953, 1963, and nicer 1976 notes, but i spend any 1995 or newer
I usually spend them around town, Dunkin Donuts and the local bakery. Everyone asks me where did you get them they don't issue them anymore. I tell them that the local banks and credit unions carry them. You just have to ask. The tellers hate them. One reason is that they might goof up on the count.
I find $2s very useful denominationally, and just nicer to carry and use than ratty $1 paper. I get straps at the bank and spend a few every week.
i agree. i havent used a $1 bill in over 2 years, and i find carrying a two easier than carrying 2 $1 coins. i hope that if the govt gets rid of the one that the two will become more common in circulation, and hopefully get redesigned to match the $5-$100 bills
Locally , the food service workers have the rumor they are good luck, so my barber, waitpeople , girl scout cookie pushers, the homeless that tug my heart, all get them. They are available at the bank. The Bank did find me straps of 500 consecutive numbered 1976 CU, so those stay in the safe in case......
Today I was at Dunkin Donuts and gave the young lady a $2.00 bill. She likes them so I said see the bank across the plaza well that's where I get mine. You just ask for them and they will gladly sell them to you. they hate the two's.
I never use them because I never get them. I don't find them interesting really...and I have never felt the need to educate the public or strike up a conversation by using them. At one time, I was a bank teller and they were more of an annoyance then (we had a local liquor store who used them for change). Perhaps that's why they don't interest me.
I usually get a ½ or full strap to look thru, then trade them in for more 2's or straps of 1's. Haven't spent too many.
i get $10 in 2s and a roll of halfs every week i can. my local bus costs $2 so there perfect to get to work
I voted #1 but I know they're not rare. I never spend them, but I never really get them either. I think I've received maybe 2 or 3 in my life and I'm pretty sure I they're stuck away with some other random trinkets I have.
