Something going on with this 2011 D Nickel. The Liberty and date on the obverse. The Monticello and Five Cents on the reverse. I have also posted another nickel with red background for comparison. Thanks for professional thoughts!!
I got a number of those in a couple rolls. Don't know if its DDO and/or DDR yet, as I am still learning. Doesn't look like the normal Plate-Split or MD stuff I have seen on some coins. Here's a pic (digital microscope) of one of mine. The "doubling" doesn't really look flat.
I agree that it doesn't look flat. That is what has me confused? The more I look at it,the more I think it is some type of error. The photos didn't come out very good but the reverse United States Of America also has doubling that isn't flat.
lillyboots, I'll have to do some photoing of a couple of mine to show the un-flatness of this. Probably in the a.m.
It looks like simple machine doubling to me, nothing special. If you look closely it covers most of the coin. Worth a nickel.
Wow I have two with the same doubling. I dont know but it seems odd that MD would be the cause of so many like this.
this could be die detoration and all coins struck by the worn out die would be almost totally identical because the damage would be on the die.
