English Voided Long-Cross Pennies of Henry III & Edward I : a website showcasing selected images of the different types of voided long cross pennies, including continental imitations. This site acts as an aid to identification and valuing the scarcer varieties of VLC penny, and carries one of the largest selections of images of these pennies anywhere online.

    Take a look! .... http://www.henry3.com

And if anyone needs help identifying one of these pennies don't hesitate to ask... Rob

    Nice !
Tried your attribution method on the site with the one below (Just attributed as "Henri III, likely London Mint")
Came up with type 5B1, London Mint. How did i do ?

A nice looking coin ! May I use the image on my website? As regards identification if you look at the reverse side you can read HIC/OLE/{ONL}/VHD - the ONL you can''t see but take my word for it. The text translates as HICOLE ON LUND - This is Nicholas of St Albans at the London mint - not Henry. When you look at the obverse you can see round eyes rather than oval, an R with wedge shaped foot (type R1), and also note the end pellets onthe crown. The X style is what is known as X4. These attributes together confirm it as a class 5b2. If the crown had end fleurs rather than pellets it would be a 5b1 and quite rare. 5b2 is normally quite common but this is a very nice example. There are a lot of variations in the reverse text and this particular one is relatively scarce.... How did I do?! Rob

Well, you are clearly the expert ! Looking again i now see what you meant with the end fleurs versus pellets.
My compliments for the website. Only on your page with continental type V imitations there are still two tropical sunsets to be replaced by coin photos ?
Off course you may use the photos on your site if you like. This was just a quick snapshot. If you need higher resolution pics just send me your e-mail adress in a PM.

Many thanks - it'll be up on the website within the hour - resolution is fine - and thanks for tipping me off about the two missing coin images - I'll go fix that too. Best regards, Rob
