In the past few weeks, i have had a few issues shipping coins at my local post office. I usually ship 1 or 2 coins through usps and had no issues but the it seems that they give me the run around on how to package them and why i cant get tracking on certain coins i ship. How do you all ship your coins to make it cheap adding tracking?

my post office lets me do almost anything i like. its a perk of living in a small town.
I have been to some big city post offices and they try to pull that stuff with me. I talk down to them, and take my business back to the bay.

This might be a lot to wade through, but some good info can be found here, which may give you some ammo in dealing with a hostile postal clerk.

I typically use bubble lined poly mailers, I put the coin in a 2x2, wrap it in bubble wrap, tape it then put it into a zip lock. I like to use PayPal shipping since they give me a discount.

I take it all your problems are from the package not being thick enough. Buy some bubble wrap and you won't have a problem.

If all you want to do is make it thicker, just put a piece of shipping popcorn in the envelope. Personally, I ship almost all slabs. I use bubble envelope and put the slab in a second (used) bubble envelope section. And definitely PayPal/eBay shipping is the cheapest.

Yeah, if you're paying $2.97 per item, that's way too much. PayPal charges $1.97 (raised from $1.69 last year) per USPS First Class package. I get the bubble mailers from Amazon here - 250 for $23. They're just big enough for a printed label to be taped on or (if you're like me) label paper cut to size. Then I just drop them off...

Yeah, ~$2.00 is what I average with eBay and paypal.

That's shocking to me. Every single thing we ship is at least $12. Our insurance policy states absolutely no envelopes can be used, and all items must be double boxed (a box inside a box). So even single coins go out in medium sized boxes and then you're at about $12.

If you are talking +-$100 slabs, you would be much better of shunning the insurance and sending it USPS with tracking only ($1.97). I don't know what the break even point is, but I have probably sent 2000 coins that way (mostly when it was cheaper) and the USPS has lost a single one. In my case, that was a $25 loss saving me $20,000 over what you pay. I have purchased significantly more and again only a single coin (that I know was shipped) failed to arrive. I have no idea what the going averages are, but I cannot believe I am that off the norm.

I just sent off an American Silver Eagle. I was going to get tracking, but wanted to spend .91 cents instead of $3.30.

Am I a fool for not paying for tracking for a single silver coin? I just hope Ebay customers are honest.

Also, I ship my coin in a safety mailer inside a regular envelope. Is that adequate protection? I'm just trying to sell all my coins, and I want whoever purchases my coins to be OK with this kind of packaging.

    Thank you.

Up to 3 oz. first class with tracking is $1.97 using eBay shipping. Without that tracking, any seller can simply say he has not received it, true or not, and you lose. Why chance it?

What I meant was... I want to ensure that my shipping is adequate for those who receive their orders. If the way I ship it isn't adequate, I want to alter it.
