Nickels I've been saving anything pre-1960. Halves anything silver and those not released for circulation. I also check for missing initials (FG) and known double dies on the halves.

I'm also curious what other nickel searchers are saving.

I tend to keep anything strange...

    foreign coins
    obsolete types
40+ y/o coins in good shape
    Any "S" Mint coin

I've had pretty good luck at getting rolls of dimes in penny folders.

I mostly just search quarters but I check everything that comes my way and do get rolls of other coins sometimes. In quarters I save all the varieties except the real common ones in low grade like the '82 to '84 type "d" reverses in lower than VF condition. I also save all the pre-1979 coins in better than VF and the key dates in nice F and better. I keep any of the states coins that are gem.

I have 5 sets of the quarters; Two are just the best I can find with varieties, one is planchets struck upside down and one right side up, and the fifth is the lowest grade I've found.

Dimes are fun too but the quarters keep me pretty busy and I don't want to abuse my bank.
