CNA Graded coin

I have the opportunity to buy these two coins. They are an 1889 P MS66 and 1886 P MS66. My problem is that they are graded by CNA, a company I have never heard of and can't find any information on, instead of one of the well known and trusted grading companies. Have any of you heard of CNA grading and if so is it a company I can trust the grading of, and what would you say is the value of these coins? Do they fetch anything like the PCGS coins of the same year and grade? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Buy the coin, not the holder. Never heard of CNA.

 

I recognize the holder, but not the name. I think it's one of those you can buy online from a china supplier and just buy the label, put the coin in, and bake it shut.

I'm willing to bet the bar code and cert # are for show.

 

Good point, holder looks like the one used by the "GEC" company.

 

Hmm that is disappointing . the seller is asking $600 for them. Do you think this is a good buy? Or should I pass?

 

Pass , I'm willing to bet those coins aren't MS-66 more probably 62s OR 63s . Buy the coin , but if you must buy sight unseen at least use PCGS and NGC .

Thanks everyone. I reluctantly passed on the offer, it isn't worth the risk if they are not actually that grade, even if the real thing would be worth much more than I'd pay. I have already learned so much in these forums. I appreciate the help and I will definitely be using this forum more often when I have questions!

Treat them as raw. My opinion is that you are in over your numismatic head on this transaction.

 

When I said buy the coin , I should have finished the sentence with , Buy the coin not the slab . Like Tom B. said treat these coins as raw . As you should do with even PCGS and NGC as even they get the grade wrong sometimes . If you can't see the coin because of lousy pics , make sure they have a liberal return policy and that they are an honest established company .

 

CNA I've heard of. IMHO, just another basement grader with over graded coins.

I can almost guarantee those two Morgans in your OP are not 66 but more like 63 and may even be a details or improperly cleaned by PCGS' and NGC's standards.

 

You have been a member here for almost one year, and there have been countless threads about "self-slabbers".
