I did not bid on this slabbed trade dollar; good decision or not?

There is NO environmental damage on the coin--I have it in hand now, and I don't know what you are seeing. It is also not dull---pictures de-emphasize luster. What it is was a coin that was obviously lightly dipped in the past and has retuned. Don't want to tell you that you don't know what you're talking about, but if you collect dollars, this is a very familiar state for Trade Dollars.

How in the world do you have it already? Express overnight?

Wow. That was nice of the seller. When I buy stuff that says standard shipping, I normally don't get for a couple weeks! Make sure you give the seller good feedback!

Oh for sure. I paid $1.30 more for the priority and he will get great feedback.

Priority mail is great , I sometimes get it the next day if the distance isn't too great and living in Chicago I'm kinda in the middle of the country .

Morgandude comparing your coin and the one that's au 53 side by side I see a touch more wear on yours that being said I like the clean unmarked fields and the color of yours better my guess is your coins gonna go au 50

My opinion the postal service has been positively rotten lately especially in New England starting around August stuff takes forever is not delivered on time and is often damaged and they charge more and more I'm using fedex and ups for anything that's fragile or time specific now as their guarantee and insurance means something and you don't have a year long fight when they destroy something and still get denied payment

Yeah, I am inclined to agree. My good friend who works for NGC looked at the coin already, and says "NO WAY" on the XF 45. HE also agrees with you, and said AU 50-53, that he thinks it is a weak strike, but definitely AU. We will see when I get it from the graders when I formally send it at the end of the month.

Okay, last word on the darn Trade Dollar that I got. I just sent it off to NGC for express handling, as I had several credits from them for bulk submissions, and ones done together with a couple of friends--lots of coins. Here is MY pictures taken on my desk, using natural light and an excellent camera. Quite different from the seller's pictures, as his were obviously a scan. Much richer, nice tone, and lots of detail and some luster still left.

Verdict--courtesy of my friend, I can get results quickly. Not formally graded yet (that should be by Friday), but the professionals at NGC say AU 53, which is what I thought originally.

Didn't say I thought it was environmental damage, just that it could or might be - and that's just based on stuff I've seen with ED details. It will be interesting to see if you're cross grade works out.

I don't think you have much experience wit dollars. Sorry to say, but for Trade Dollars, this is considered a very nice coin. As I said above, it has already been informally graded AU 53 by someone at NGC.

Better in these pics I'm still saying au-50 but an au without a doubt and a real nice coin

I sent it crossover, minimum grade AU 50 in thr PCGS slab. I think NGC enjoys regrading nice PCGS coins. :)

Just got my results on my 2 raw ones I sent f-12 on my 1878-s which I feel a bit low and xf-45 on my 1873 which I guessed it as tho I hoped they'd be leinient and call it au-50 is very close in grade to morgandudes coin regardless was thrilled with the grades on the other 2 coins I sent and both trades were clean problem free coins
