Can someone help me here? As i understand it this coin issued by The Perth Mint has 99.99% silver and according to weight specifications at least a half a gram of 'pure gold' privy insert in it. At current price for Bullion content alone 2 oz of silver and a half gram of gold, the bullion content alone is $70 (Gold $25) so these coins on Ebay with starting bids at 99c look good long term collection value. Certificate of authenticity says only 1500 minted Worldwide for each coin making them RARE too. i would appreciate any comments from 'learned' numismatists on their thoughts as to long term appreciation. i recently purchased the 1994 set of 4 X 2 oz Kookaburras and got them for $90.00 Australian (which i thought cheap, but some $80 odd right now) and they are beautiful to behold. Will they go up if silver goes to $30 or $40?? Should i buy more now???
Half a gram is, what, 0.017 oz of gold? Seems a bit more than I would expect for a tiny gold inlay like that. A lot of the Australian Kooks sell for multiples of their bullion value. The scarcity of these seems like they'd be a decent buy at that price.
My mate weighed the standard 2 ounce and silver kooka 99.999% silver and difference is half a gram . Privy insert is a replica in miniature of coins issued from history ..cheers John
have also contacted The Perth Mint for coin specifications on Perth Mint issued 2 oz Kookaburras with Gold Privy inserts...
There is one kooka Gold Privy coin on sale now on Ebay that i know only 100 coins are issued wwide outside of sets to listed collectors who will not putem on mkt ..think about it.
