I just completed my first direct mint purchase in the form of a 2013 America the Beautiful Mount Rushmore S mint 100 coin bag. I bought it solely to hunt for errors and maybe a couple gems. Does anyone have any tips on what to look out for, known errors or any sought after coins? Im a new guy and could use it. THANKS!

If you come across any coin(s) that appear to have a very slight depression along any device, set it aside and look for a full-blown die break in that same location. Often, die breaks begin as a sub-surface crack which raises the surface of the die slightly, thereby creating a depression on the coin. If you happen to find one with a full break, then you will have a nice progression. It's not worth a whole lot of money (except to a hardcore error collector) but it is cool to be able to show how it all began.

The same may be true for die cracks. You might get lucky and find a progression showing the growth and expansion of a crack.

I was used to searching $250 Mint bags of SQ's, so I can't guarantee that you will find anything in a sampling of just 100 coins.

    Good luck!
