I did not bid on this slabbed trade dollar; good decision or not?

    NGC Census: 60 graded in XF45, but ~ 690 graded higher. Looks like MS62 has 111, MS63 has 88 and MS64 with 64.

I already PM'ed Morgandude11, and without getting into all of my reasons, I'm going to pass on this particular coin. I appreciate the info, though.

Anyone else please feel free to go for it. I'd hate for someone to miss out on a nice coin because they're waiting for me.

I may buy it. That coin is under graded. A trip to NGC, and I am pretty sure it is at least Au 50-53.

Only reason I'm not is I will have nothing to do with sleaze bay if it was on ct for sale or a dealer I do business with website I'd buy it

Still not a lot all considered a much lower survival rate compared to the mintages then most coins

I know the seller from previous business. Think the coin is an AU 50 as a minimum grade submit to NGC?

No I think it could go au too reason I'm not buying it is I won't do business on flea bay for any reason (long story) I buy either from the coin auctions often from ct from a few dealers websites and all over New England estate auctions

Me too. I like it, and the devices detail far exceeds XF standards. I think it is $500 coin in $300 clothing. May buy it.

It is mine now. Will submit to NGC as a minimum grade AU 50, and I have a feeling it may go AU 53.

Me I'd have just left it until I was ready to sell it but then that's me I think it's got a good shot at 50 but hard to tell not in hand

I have some leftover submissions after a big bulk one, so I will burn it on this one.

You're gonna make me regret it, I'm sure ;-)

Can't wait to hear how it ends. Hope you get your AU53...or better!

(also glad it went to someone here)

Basically, even if it doesn't ( unlikely, as I have two that aren't as nice, and both grade solid AU), it is still a $500 plus coin for under $300.

Please slap me with some knowledge. Explain the difference between the coin you just bought and the one below. Wouldn't the one below be a better deal? Just asking you opinion.

I would say that both of them are good deals--personally would have been happy with either one.. Look at the coin I bought and that one. My opinion is that they're the same grade--PCGS dropped the ball on the coin I got. Either one is an excellent value for the dollar. Look at the coins side by side, and I think it shows that they're the same approximate grade--even though one was graded XF 45, and the other AU 53. That is a close call, anyway. I would say that the NGC coin is DARKER in toning, and it accentuates the contrast of the coin, but surface preservation of the two are almost identical. In fact, the fields are cleaner on the obverse of the alleged XF-45 coin. This is why I will submit mine to NGC--thanks for a perfect example of what I think is a mis graded coin. The kind folks from Newport Beach blew it, as I see it. :) 78sc.jpg 78sd.jpg 78se.jpg 78sf.jpg

Both nice, but the second one- the one with the dull finish, could be that it is bordering on environmental damage. I would say you're lucky it clean graded 45. I get kind of frustrated with environmental damage details when the surfaces are clearly original, but it's not my place to judge. Perhaps there should be another category of grade - full grades that include or take into consideration damage that is the result of normal circulation vs cleaning, grafitti, jewelry etc.
