Where are you guys seeing evidence of an improper cleaning? I would agree that it is whiter than it should, but i don't see it as a details coin.
I see hairlining especially in the fields above the eagle and to the right of miss liberty and it doent appear at all like die polish lines
all kinds of fine lines in the fields, plus I've seen enough cleaned coins in my day, also, look on the obverse where there was a big grease spot was, not so big now
AU-Details. Still a nice coin but it has some problems in my opinion. One of the highest mintages in the series.
Y'all have been a big help. I think I'm going to get the half graded, since I didn't pay nothing for it
It's an XF-45 to AU-50 details. From the image that I see the color does not look natural. It has the washed out appearance of a cleaned coin. But that could be from the lighting or because it was shot through the plastic of the 2X2. The rev is out of focus and it appears there could be a couple of scratches by the eagles head, but those could be on the plastic. Not sure what the value is but I think slabbing it would be questionable. Fair chance it isn't worth enough to justify it. Yes you say you paid nothing for it, but once you pay to have it slabbed you will have between $30 and $50 into it. If it comes back as aproblem free AU-50 then it probably is. If it comes back as an XF is it worth it? If it comes back as a detail XF then what? This coin needs to be seen in hand by someone who can accurately determine what it is before you go throwing your money at a grading service.
