Legend on the first side seems to read: TOIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM on the other: RAIOLMS DEI GRA. ARAMGORUM REX Design is Medieval French. But legends as i read them don't make sense. So this is either a medieval French coin, or what i think more likely now: A (most often German) medieval jeton (counter token) pretending to be a French coin. But someone may come up with a better solution.
Close, but not quite it. SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM KARLOLUS DEI GRA FRANCORUM The coin is a gros de Roi, Charles VII , second period 1436-1461, (actually minted in 1447), and I believe the Lyon mint. As for value - $300-$400 http://www.mcsearch.info/search.htm...n=1&de=1&fr=1&it=1&es=1&ol=1&sort=&c=&a=&l=#0
The coin appears to have been bent & re-straightened (you can see the crease in the pics if you know to look). What would that do to the value?
If it has I certainly see no signs of it, and I used to collect hammered coinage so I do know what it looks like and am quite familiar with it. I think what you are seeing is merely a result of it being a hammer struck coin. It is quite normal for the flans to be wavy. But even if it had been bent, it would have little to no effect on the value I offered.
