Here's a question that I believe might get some mixed reactions. There's a lot of talk about fakes and them being so good that it's hard to spot. I've hade this idea of using fake coins as poker money instead of chips. It would feel really awesome betting in gold and silver, even if it's just fake. Copper is cheap enough that you don't have to fake it... Any thoughts on this? Counterfeiting is illegal but is it illegal to own or buy as opposed to doing the counterfeiting and trying to pass it off as the real deal? I wouldn't know where to find good fakes in any case but el cheapo can sure be found in plenty in china for peanuts. So, flame suit on. (It's just an idea for fun...)
You'be better off playing with gold and silver color chocolate coins, they sell them at any party store thing. At least those won't rust or cost you few dollars a piece.
It's an interesting idea Kema. It might take you a long time to accumulate enough to be able to have a real game. The overall cost might be prohibitive as well, but I would like to play poker with counterfeit coins. It would be fun.
Interesting idea, and I think it's a neat one, albeit probably a bit on the expensive side. I don't think it's illegal to own the counterfeit, there's lots of things that you could get in trouble for outside the home that are fine if you keep it inside. Heck, even just having a poker game could be technically illegal, even without getting into the types of "chips". But, howsabout instead playing with fractional real silver, or even junk 90%? Personally I let my kids play with junk silver (including Morgans, Peace, etc) when they do their "restaurant" stuff or other games that need the concept of money. I love hearing the ringing of the silver as they use it, really neat sound. You can get fractional and junk silver everywhere, and would probably be cheaper altogether in the long run. Plus, if you order from the right places on eBay, it'll have the benefit of being counterfeit too!
