Counterstamped wheat penny?

    Got this coin, would like to find out why would someone stamp a "4" on a wheat penny, what is this coin? Thanks ccs.jpg

    The coin is a 1940 US cent, it didn't come from the mint that way, and there could be 1,000,001 reasons why someone might do that.

    Why not? I've seen people do worse to coins. :)

    Number one reason is "Because I have a punch and a hammer, and this coin is convenient."

    It was done by the Secret Service to track the coin. Have you looked out your front window? Watch what you say on the phone.
