I apologize if the pics are all over the place. I tried to redo and rearrange but it wouldn't let me. Sorry. Still learning. This 1918 wheat is pretty worn and worth little, but I'm still curious. I would think it was hacked with granny's butcher knife if the lines didn't line up the same on both sides. A vise?...or some kind of die damage? As always...Thank you!
I can think of several tools that could create damage on both sides at the same time but we will never know what was actually used.
Thanks, Rick and Larry. I always gringe when I see this kind, or any deliberate damage done to a coin. It seems almost every time I find a keeper, it will be either hacked, shot, painted, or beat with the unknown. And...while I'm here...any suggestions on the best way to remove lime (crud) deposits from coins without harming them? Thanks again!
I agree with on tools Larry. But there is 1 more item that could have done this Used as a shim/spacer? If only coins could talk
