Maintaining an Inventory for Raw Coins

    definer definitely....! LOL

I have about 600 coins the majority of which are raw. I just bought CoinManage to track the collection and I want to take advantage of it's tracking ability to track individual coins. Currently everything I buy goes into an Excel spreadsheet which has served me well, but I now want to track individual coins, most of which are currently in Air-tites or Kointains (A/K)

I don;t want to put a label on the A/Ks but want to, again track the individual coins. Albums won;t really help me ( and don't really interest me). I've though about CoinWorld holders but $1.75 ea doesn't really interest me either. And I don't feel that flip really protect the coins.

Ideally, I'd like to put them into a product that provides some level of protection and allows to label with some sort of ID but still allows full view of the coin. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I wonder if some sort of QR code or bar code label would be helpful? Something a P Touch could print out?

I don't know a lot about them, or if it's worth the trouble, it's just the first thought that sprung to mind...

Thanks. Something to consider. BTW, I received my two Franklins and they look great!

Great! I'll be putting a couple more on in the next week. (Not to derail your thread.)

Flips can be used and still protect your coin more. I have seen collectors get handheld sealers and seal the open end of the flip so the coin cannot get out. Then you have a nice safe flip, with a protected coin, and the other half which is great for documenting anything you want about the coin.

Myself, I prefer to play with my coins too much to wish to seal them away, but to each his own.

I don't want to "seal them away" per se, I just want to be able to know what is what in my inventory.

Would food grade poly bags work without damaging the coins?

For my raw coins I like to use the flips. So I can take the coins in & out of them and to make an insert with the details I have decided upon for that coin, which include my cost code & date acquired. Then I can match them up with my coin database software and pics I have taken of them.

One way I have seen it done is to put the coin that is already in the airtite inside of a 2 by 2 (mylar and cardboard) holder and you can then write on that....

I'm beginning to think that 2x2s may be the way to go, but I just don't like them all that much.

one problem is that dollars don't have a 2X2 big enough to fit the coin and airtite in it, it works with all other sizes though...

I've decided to go with a food grade 2x3 poly bag with an Avery label on it. The coin inside the bag will either be in an air-tite or kointain.

Thanks everyone for all the input!
