I like to roll search especially cents and I was wondering what kind of errors I could find searching rolls? Clipped Planchet, Brockage, Off centered strikes, etc. I can't well enough to find RPM's and such but figured I would be able to see other stuff if it's out there.
WAM's and CAM's for cents. Although to determine these, a loupe would be essential unless you have good eyes.
I've only been roll searching for about a year, but pocket hunting for about 2 years. I've found 1 clip. It's my avitar. I've found a couple pretty good die clashes and a ton of minor ones. A few good varieties and a bunch of minors (rpm, doubled die, trail dies). Found one struck through very late stage die cap and quite a few struck through grease errors. 1 unstruck planchet. A few minor die attrition errors. 1 or 2 very minor off centers. Many minor misaligned dies. Many collar clashes. A couple partial collars (railroad rims). None of the more majors like broad struck, brockage, ect. Things are out there. Just takes luck, patience, and keeping at it. Good luck!
Are the rolls you are searching the rolls sold at the bank or from the mint or where do you get yours? I buy mine from local banks.
some errors you will not find in rolls, any error that deforms the coin or makes it larger than normal wont fit in a roll, these type of errors are usually found in bags of coins...
In the last year I have found: multiple clipped planchets, 2 struck through die caps, 2 off centers, 3 cuds, and other things all from bank wrapped rolls.
Where can you buy bags? I have purchased some from the bank that were the coins that were run through the counter and bagged to send to the FED other than that I don't know anywhere else.
i know you can still get some from the mint, quarters, halves an dollars i've seen there, but have'nt seen anything smaller, maybe from a dealer who buys in bulk from mint...
