Ehhh....so I got my Ptolemy coin. I'm very happy with it!!! It is big and chunky with good details, and isn't so ridiculously huge that it does not look like a coin.

On the other hand...I've never uploaded photos and for that matter this is pretty much the first photos I've taken with this phone. So no clue how that aspect of it is going to go. I know at the least they're rotated for some reason, and have no idea if you guys will be able to view them.

But yeah!!! Big ancient coin is mine!!

Heh upon posting looks like you get the three pics as thumbnails and one of them also as a full image... :)

Going to have to start in on my collection of females on bronzes now, I think.

If you don't want to stray too far for you first female, consider that the Ptolemaic coins include a variety with Isis in place of Zeus. If you want to leave Egypt, there is a coin of Antiochus IV of Syria that copies the Ptolemaic type but had Antiochus' legends on the reverse.

is that an ancient coin???? I don't know what it is can you tell whats its km#??

We don't use km, we use a hodgepodge of different specialized books.

If there was a similar book for ancients it would likely take up a whole room.

No ancient coin has a KM#. Last I heard they began with 1600. We all disagree on exactly when 'ancient' stops but the most extreme of us cut off with the end of the Byzantine Empire in the 1450's so KM is safe from us.

It's a Ptolemy IV from around 220 BC, I believe.

Thats a great first purchase! And I think your photos are fine, they show your coin well.

Ohhhh, I didn't look at the reverse photos before, it has some nice lettering!

Yeah I had about 5 I was considering but I bought that one largely as the detail seemed relatively good, the letters were completely legible, and there were no major problems with it. There were several coins that looked fine with bad letters.
