Here are some pictures of the 1944-P war nickel I recently found. It is shiny except for Monticello, which is dull. Was this nickel replated? If so, in what metal?
These nickels were never plated by the mint and it does not appear to be plated. Replating usually refers to 1943 steel cents, which were originally plated by the mint and then replated by private companies.
A customer came in the store and paid in change. I noticed that she had a lot of change and that some of it was old and grungy so I told her she could spend all the change if she wanted to so she cashed it in for paper money. The war nickel was in the change. I also scored a wheat penny the same way on the same night by offering to convert customers' change into paper money.
