Do you think 2009 pennys will someday become as valuable as 1909 cents? And is it worth hoarding?? This penny for both centures seem to be alot lower of a mintage as other dates. Eventually do you think this penny will be worth $700,$800,$900, in a good grade, and worth hoarding like copper cents/silver coins???

    in a word. No.

They are plentiful in excellent condition.

Until demand far outstrips supply, the prices will remain low. The demand will almost assuredly never make these coins scarce let alone rare

Simple answer is no, i don't think so. I believe the 1909 is valuable because of the VDB. In 2009, they minted 2.3 BILLION Lincoln cents. Almost every design was 10x more than the 1909.

Ask me in 100 years from now. :)

No, not really. Although the varieties on those caught on some.

No modern coin released for circulation (with the exception of condition rarities) will ever be worth much. Not this year and not in 200 years. Far too many are produced and hoarded.

I'm still not convinced hoarding copper cents is a good idea either, since you brought it up in comparison. IMHO.

The satin finish set and proof set have a shot at being worth something someday. Nothing like the 1909 however. Circulation strike will not be worth anything significant within our lifetimes, if ever.

well it's all about mintage and 100, 200 years from now they will be producing far more coins than they do today so the 2009 penny will have a relatively low mintage in the distant future. My guess is that the penny won't exist 100 years from now so there's another thing going for it. Oh, are you talking about 'in our lifetime'? Well the set of 4 in PF70 is going for $270 today and I think there will be some price appreciation someday but there are rarer coins that will be much better investments. I own a couple sets myself but I like the design and I don't expect a large price increase anytime soon.

In 100 or 200 years from now, not only will the penny probably no longer be minted, but humans might be living on Mars and the Moon. So people will be saying 'that coin is from planet earth'.

Op your going the wrong way. The idea is to find something that has value which is ignored today but won't be in the future. It's not hard to find. The idea that people and markets are rational is a pipe dream. Speculators would starve to death if "rational" people didn't under value and over value nearly (not zincers) everything. Here's an example of gross mis-allocation of value: did you hear much news in 2012 about Neil Armstrong dying? Did you hear any news at all? But hey, bieber chips a finger nail and it's an international crisis. See next post

Zinc cents minted in the billions don't have any ignored value today and unless interdimensional beings spring from the polar vortex, and start eating them, most likely won't in the future. :)

That's a condition rarity at the moment. There were 12 million of those minted. ~3 million per design. Now that the price has been established, there will be more sent to the TPG's for grading which will only serve to increase the supply, thus decrease the price.
